Dr. Rajan Mahtani Supports Zambian President’s Recent Announcement

 



Recently, an article on Dr. Rajan Mahtani was published at the ‘Mast Newspaper’. The article was an interview excerpt on Dr. Mahtani’s opinion regarding the new announcement by Zambian President The president of Zambia on the occasion of ‘Africa Day’ made a bold statement. He announced that he is working towards abolishing the death penalty. According to him, death penalty is a cruel and inhumane punishment and majority of the areas and organizations across the globe have already started to abolish death penalty or capital punishment. The announcement has received widespread support 

Dr. Rajan Mahtani extended his support to the President’s announcement’. Dr. Mahtani founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia 37 years ago. It is a Christian Outreach Program that has amassed significant support and popularity since its establishment. The organization works for welfare and justice of Zambian inmates and their families. PFZ also works towards providing fundamental human rights as well as fundamental dignity for all those serving sentence. Dr. Mahtani has applauded the decision made by the Zambian President. He said that only a passionate person with respect towards fundamental human rights can make such decision. Dr. Rajan Mahtani also stated that giving capital punishment does not change anything for those prisoners. Also, several Presidents before having avoided giving death penalty but none of them actualy did something to legally abolish this inhumane practice. 

Dr. Mahtani also stated that making the announcement a reality will be tough ask. There will be significant resistance and need for legal reforms. However, the process can be achieved with collaboration and supporting each other. Prison Fellowship Zambia has extended its support to President’s Decision and Dr. Rajan Mahtani will continue to work towards the development of Zambia and its people.
